Emerging Signals Unconfirmed · Event-Based
Early signals from event-based surveillance — automated and expert-curated systems that scan open sources, often flagging unusual activity before official confirmation. These are not confirmed outbreaks. Listed with source and confidence so readers can watch developing situations with appropriate caution.
Signals are regional agency reporting from PAHO, the UK Health Security Agency and WHO. A signal is an early indication, not a verified event; many resolve as nothing. RNN promotes a signal to a confirmed story only when a named authority (WHO, CDC or a national ministry) verifies it.

Safety and health advisory levels as issued by named government authorities, on a 1–4 scale. These are each government's advice to its own travelers; entry vaccination requirements (e.g. yellow fever) will be added as a separate reference. Levels and notices as published, with date and source.

Sources: US Department of State Travel Advisories (Levels 1–4) and US CDC Travel Health Notices. Levels change on events — State reviews Levels 1–2 yearly and 3–4 at least every six months. Always confirm current status with the issuing authority before travel.

River News Network reports official government and international sources as issued — with named attribution and time stamps, presented without endorsement. Where public-health guidance is contested or politically charged, RNN surfaces the source and the date so readers can weigh it themselves. RNN does not provide medical advice; consult a qualified clinician and official travel-health guidance before making health decisions.

About the Health desk

The Health desk is River News Network’s global health watch. It reads the World Health Organization’s Disease Outbreak News, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s notifiable-disease surveillance and travel health notices, the Pan American Health Organization, the UK Health Security Agency and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, and the World Organisation for Animal Health for diseases that move between animals and people. Food and product recalls come from the US Food and Drug Administration, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the UK Food Standards Agency and Australia’s ACCC.

Disease files follow a single pathogen through a ladder of agency statements — animal detection, movement restrictions, wildlife confirmation, human case, WHO notice, travel notice, emergency language — each rung an agency’s own dated statement. RNN sets no case-count threshold and makes no projection. Where a disease has a reference picture, it comes from public archives such as the CDC Public Health Image Library, the EMBL-EBI Electron Microscopy Data Bank and the Protein Data Bank, labelled as archive material with its own release date.

Health guidance on this desk is quoted from MedlinePlus (US National Library of Medicine) and MyHealthfinder (US Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion), with attribution and a link, and never written by RNN. If you are unwell, contact a medical professional; in an emergency call your local emergency number.
